Today following yesterday’s canonizations of Pope St John XXIII and Pope St John Paul II in Rome by His Holiness Pope Francis in the presence of His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and many world leaders, what looked like the entire college of cardinals, many archbishops, bishops, monsignori, priests, deacons, seminarians, and several hundreds of thousands of the faithful, our Presiding Archbishop celebrated a solemn Votive Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary in thanksgiving assisted by Bishop Michael. Following Mass, in addition to the Regina Cæli, the Te Deum was sung.

Sancte Ioanne XXIII, ora pro nobis.
Sancte Ioanne Paule II, ora pro nobis.

Archiepiscopal degree following the canonizations

The Presiding Archbishop has decreed that the Feast Days will be celebrated on October 11th for Pope St John XXIII, and October 22nd for Pope St John Paul II, both First Class Feasts and using the Common of One Supreme Pontiff (Missale Romanum 1962, Missa Si diligis me (2). The liturgical texts to be used at Mass according to the 1970 Missal and its subsequent revisions will be advised in due course. Red vestments to be used when celebrating in either form as with Feasts for all Canonized Popes.
